Head Back to School with Tattered Nest

Tattered Nest - Back to School booth

It's sad to say goodbye to the summery casual beach booth I had going on, but the new Back to School themed booth brings a hint of fall crispness with it! You can almost smell the apple cider and feel a cooler breeze blowing in as you take in all the back to school fun! Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but I'm going with it!

I've loaded the booth with lots of fun memories of school days, gift ideas for special teachers and students, vintage books (some over 100 years old!), and new furniture.

Make some time in your back-to-school schedule to stop by Homestead Handcrafts & Tattered Nest!

Vintage road maps (70's & 80's) would make fun book covers, or could be decoupaged on furniture! A small lamp with a Texas road map shade would be cute for a travel enthusiast. The vintage cigar box decoupaged with ephemera would make a great teacher's gift. The framed children's dictionary page would be darling in a child's room (and there are several to choose from)!

The magazine table features decoupaged book pages and a bird silhouette. Flash cards are useful, but also fun! Use them as bookmarks, add them to a scrapbook page, or decoupage them on the front of your journal. I also have several packs of other neat ephemera.

How about a vintage enamelware platter turned into a chalkboard? Love upcycling yesterday's trash into today's treasures! There's a vintage "Go to the Head of the Class" game (the box is included, on display on the other side of the booth), a vintage Crayola tin, and 2 vintage Scotch tape tins. Did you know that 3M stands for Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing?

I have several framed pages from a 1964 My First Dictionary. Some are letter pages, and would be a cute way to personalize a child's room. Others feature scenes (like the "Body" page in the picture above) with various words pointing to the items in the picture. Great colorful vintage graphics! Incidentally, if you don't find the letter you're looking for, email me and I'll let you know if I have more of that letter.

Cute, cute, cute treat jars with chalkboard label area. You can personalize these yourself, then erase and change it up! Great teacher gifts, but fun for home too! I also have Lunch Box Love notes - knock-knock jokes, kid-friendly quotes, inspirational sayings, and love notes. These come in packs of 20, and are a great way to spice up a lunch box!

Funky dry-erase board - how fun would this be in your kitchen, office, or classroom?

Beachy Cuteness at Tattered Nest!

So, Tattered Nest has been up-and-running for about 5 months. It's undergone several revisions in that time, but I typically forget to take my camera in to get fresh photos! This time, I settled for my cell phone camera, so please excuse the poor quality.

For the remainder of July and most of August, I'm featuring a beachy theme. Here are some of the goodies you'll find if you stop by Homestead Handcrafts in on Thousand Oaks (between Nacogdoches and IH-35) in San Antonio (I'm on Aisle J):

Shell Mosaics & Chalkboard Plates. LOVE this mirror with a shell mosaic frame. The grout is sand-colored. FUN! That's my sweet mama in the mirror! The pretty teal chalkboard plate has embossed butterflies on it. SWEET! And dontcha love that little ceramic Nantucket basket? So cute!

I had a blast making over this "By the Sea" lamp. The lampshade features handwritten lyrics from this cute old song. When you turn the lamp on, clam shells appear on the shade (they show up even better when overhead lights are turned off). The base of the lamp is painted a beachy-shabby-chic aqua, and has a little sand on it!

For some inexpensive beach ambience, how about a little sign? These cuties are only $5 each! And how about that chalkboard treat jar? You can change the label to fit your mood - or the contents!

Some pretty bottles and letter cubes. Wouldn't that bamboo tray be cute in your bathroom?

Beachy-Keen

A beachy bucket, complete with a YUMMY Angel Food Cake Circle E votive candle!

I LOVE this idea! Upcycled Caraffes with chalkboard paint labels. Perfect for serving Sweet & Unsweetened Iced Tea, water, lemonade, etc. at parties. Just erase & relabel with chalk!

Chalkboard Caraffes

Sweet old hand-appliqued Morning Glory coverlet. It's either a twin or full - I'm not sure. It's a steal at $25.

More beachy fun. Shabby-chic candlesticks, a tin planter, another chalkboard plate & caraffe, and a cute wicker conch shell.

Beachy Booth

Seashell Mosaic Chalkboard Plates. These are created from wood chargers, so they are less fragile.

Another chalkboard plate. This creamy beauty has embossed butterflies on it. And don't forget the seashell mosaic birdhouse (or shell shack!) and the chalkboard treat jar!

Won't you stop by the Tattered Nest at Homestead Handcrafts? It'll be like a beach getaway!
